Basseille Classics source, sell and export classic cars out of South Africa, with a good deal of that work being Defenders headed to buyers in the US. Sourcing, sale, paperwork, overland transport to the nearest port, and shipping to the US — RoRo or containerised. Being inland matters more than it sounds. Rust is the thing that quietly ruins a Defender, and cars that have spent their lives on the Highveld tend to have had a far easier time of it than those from the coast. Sourcing from Gauteng is a real advantage rather than a detail. The name goes back further than the business. Sullivan Basseille has been in the classic car industry since 2012 and started Basseille Classics in 2022, but the family connection runs deeper — his grandfather Roger came to South Africa from Belgium in 1950 and ran a Johannesburg dealership called Argent Motors, which is where the shipping side of the company gets its name. They have also recently started taking on custom rebuilds, managed in-house through their own contacts, with milestone payments and photo updates through the process.
